The OER-Creator Workshop started on October 18 in Zurich with around 20 participants from Switzerland. The aim is to learn how open educational resources (OER) are created. Our team of experts, Alireza Darvishy and Oriane Pierrès, explained in detail how content can be made accessible and where any problems lie.
First, facts about impairments, legal principles and the principles of Universal Design for Learning were presented. This was followed by a presentation of eight targeted systems (best practices) that serve as a basis for the participants to design accessible content. These eight best practices are inspired by the OER Accessibility Toolkit from open UBC. In the subsequent group discussion, first drafts for the design of OER were discussed.
The workshop is a Swiss collaboration between ZHAW, ETHZ and SFISM. Training on accessibility is central, as the aim of the OER movement is to make education accessible to all.
After the first meeting, participants will be working on OER over the next six weeks. An interim session will be offered on November 15 to help with any difficulties and answer any questions.
